Top things to do after arrivals

Helpful tips for moving in

You've packed, you've travelled, and you've moved in, but what's next? Arriving to university is an exciting experience, but the to-do list doesn't end there. There are still a few important things you need to do after you've arrived.

Complete your room Audit  📝

Checking and confirming your room audit protects you from any unfair charges for pre-existing damage or missing items when you move out. You will receive an email after your arrival, and you will have 7 days to complete this. It's always best to complete it as soon as you move in. It can be hard to notice small damages, etc once you've unpacked everything, so the minute you've popped your bags down, it's best to check off this task. If you miss the 7-day window, you risk being held responsible for pre-existing damages or maintenance issues, etc.

Register with the GP 🏥

It might not be the most thrilling task, but it is very important. Making sure you've registered with a GP, especially during arrivals week, with Freshers' flu going around. To register with our on-campus GP, you will need to complete some forms that can be downloaded from the Medical Practice website or by visiting the Health Centre.

For students at our Scottish Borders campus, please register with Braeside Medical Centre by downloading and filling out this form.

Set up payments 💰

You must set up your accommodation payments. All students need to pay a four-week advance rent payment within 48 hours of accepting their accommodation to secure their spot. To do so, log in to the accommodation portal. If you haven't paid within 48 hours, then your offer will be invalid, and you may lose your accommodation. You'll be able to see your invoices on your student account within 7 days of arrival.
