What time is it? Summer time!
That's right, summer's here, and you might be wondering what you're gonna do until lectures start again. But don't worry, we've got plenty of ideas for you:
Catch the latest movies
Support your local cinemas this summer, such as Pavilion in Galashiels. Summer blockbusters are perfect for the predictable, unpredictable Scottish summer weather!
The Borders Games
Try something new this summer and attend the oldest organised sports meeting in Scotland. Borders Games are an 8-day festival in Innerleithen. There's a parade & service walk through the town, bands & entertainment up on the high street, as well as some family fun. It's a great day to see what local life is all about in the Borders.
A day at the beach
The classic summer day out! Check the weather, grab the disposable BBQ and head to Coldingham Bay. It's bordered by rocky headlands from top to bottom, with historic beach huts and surrounded by the St. Abbs Voluntary Marine Reserve.
Get your exercise in
It's completely understandable that after a long day on campus, you already feel tired and then don't want to go for a walk or to the gym. But now it's summer, you have the time and energy to go on a walk or even a hike! Head up to Lee Pen at Innerleithen. The views are outstanding, especially if you go at sunrise or sunset!
Paddleboarding and Kayaks
If you're not really feeling a hike but still want to get outdoors, why not try paddleboarding? You can hire paddleboards and kayaks at Loch of the Lowes. It's fun and easy to get into, and even more fun to see your mate fall off into the water!
We hope you have a brilliant summer, whether you're staying local, back home with your family or embracing the hot weather abroad. If you're on a bit of a budget this summer, check out some free things to do in Galashiels instead! ☀️
