How do I get to Borders campus from the airport

Welcome to our Scottish Borders campus! Nestled in the heart of Galashiels, your new home is surrounded by stunning scenery, vibrant history, and a tight-knit student community.

To make your arrival weekend as smooth as possible, we have put together a quick guide on the best way to reach campus.

From the Airport to Central Edinburgh

Once you've collected your luggage, you'll need to head into central Edinburgh. There are two great options outside the terminal:

• The Edinburgh Tram: Hop on the tram directly outside the terminal doors and take it straight to the Edinburgh Waverley or Haymarket stops. Trams run every 7 minutes and take about 35 minutes.
• Airlink 100 Bus: This bright blue double-decker bus departs every 10 minutes from Stand A outside arrivals. It takes you straight to Waverley Bridge (next to the train station) in about 30 minutes.

Central Edinburgh to Galashiels (the scenic route)

Once you are in the city centre, you can choose between a relaxing train ride or a direct bus down to the Borders:

• By train: From Edinburgh Waverley Station, board the Borders Railway line bound for Tweedbank. Get off at the Galashiels stop. The train runs hourly, takes around 50 minutes, and offers beautiful views of the Scottish countryside.
• By Bus: Walk over to the Edinburgh Bus Station (or catch it along Princes Street) and board the X62 Borders Bus. This route takes you directly to the Galashiels Transport Interchange in about 1 hour and 20 minutes.

Arriving in Galashiels

Both the train and the X62 bus drop you off at the modern Transport Exchange. From here, you are practically on campus:

• Walking: The Scottish Borders Campus on Nether Road is a flat, easy 15-minute walk from the interchange.
• By Taxi: If you have heavy bags, there is a taxi rank directly outside the interchange. This route usually takes less than 5 minutes.
• Local Bus: Several local buses leave from the interchange and stop right outside the campus gates.

Travel Tip 💡

If you are under 22 and living in Scotland, you are eligible for free bus travel across the country! Make sure to apply for a Young Scot National Entitlement Card as soon as you arrive so you can use the bus networks for free.
