We want to make sure arrivals day is focused on getting you settled in as soon as possible, so please have a quick read of our simple steps so you know what to do...
Accommodation offer 🔖
Before arriving to campus, you must have accepted your Accommodation offer and read the contract, terms and conditions properly to make sure you know your responsibilities. If you have any questions about your contract, contact the Accommodation office on halls@hw.ac.uk.
To review your agreed contract please login into your accommodation account.
Book your arrivals slot ⏰
Please make sure you book your arrival slot before coming to campus. We recommend booking the early slot to fully experience Welcome week.
Key Collection 🔑
Once you arrive on campus you will need to collect your keys from the Main Reception.
The area outside main reception is a drop-off zone only, so make sure you park your car at the car parks. Please don’t stop/park outside the main reception area as you will be blocking the poor buses!
To collect your key card or key, you will need to bring a photographic ID (passport or driving license or BRP) and a copy of your arrival pass (hardcopy or electronic copy)
If you wish to buy a bedding pack, let the main reception team know and you can collect it right away. The bedding pack costs £30 and consists of a pillow, a duvet, a bedsheet, a pillow cover, and a duvet cover.
The location will be well signposted, and the staff will be around to help you if you get lost.
Getting to your hall 📍
Once you collected your key/key card, start heading to your hall. You cannot park outside your hall, but you can drop off your belongings and then move your car to nearest car park. The drop-off time is 5-10 minutes, after that you will be asked to move to allow others to do the same.
Check out the campus map so you will know what to expect. But don’t worry, there will be signs around campus and student helpers to help point you to the right direction.
Parking 🚗
Students are requested to park at J/ H car park and collect keys at the main reception. Blue badges holders can park in disabled spaces outside the halls of residences.
Please be aware that students' residents at the Edinburgh campus are not allowed to bring their car to campus. For further information, please contact carparking@hw.ac.uk.
Shopping 🛒
Once you moved everything in (except the kitchen sink) and looked around your room and kitchen, head to the supermarket to buy some necessities for the next few days. Supermarket delivery van can only enter campus after 8pm, any delivery van prior to 8pm will be denied entry.
Get to know your hall’s facilities 📮
Where is the laundry? Where is the mailbox? How do I sign in to the WiFi (super important)? Where is the maintenance QR code? All this information is available on Wattliving but if you are still unsure, find the Reslife team (in red) or email Reslife inbox.
Find out when your mandatory halls meeting is 🗓
The halls meeting is mandatory for all student residents. Here you will meet the services that will assist and support you throughout your stay on campus, such as Reslife, SafeGuarding, Student Union and many more.
You will be sent an invite to the meeting closer to your arrival date.
Have fun! 🥳
Once you have given your loved ones a big hug, it’s time to get to know your neighbours. We know it’s nerve wracking but it’s ok, everyone is just as nervous and anxious as you. Join the multitude of activities ran by teams across campus and hopefully you will meet some likeminded people.
If things stop being fun or if you are struggling with anything, just contact the Reslife team.
