PAT Testing in Halls – Keeping You Safe

Posted 1 month ago

Not sure whether your appliance is safe to use? PAT test it!

To ensure your safety and peace of mind, the University will be conducting Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) on all electrical items in student halls between October 6th and November 7th.

This includes both university-owned appliances and personal electrical items in your room and shared kitchen areas. We want to ensure everything is safe to use and meets required standards.

πŸ›οΈ In your bedroom:

Unless you live in Robin Smith, the engineers will not enter your bedroom. So, if you have any items that you wish to PAT test, please bring them to the kitchen at the scheduled testing date.

🍽️ In the kitchen:

Please place all shared and personal kitchen appliances (e.g. kettles, toasters, rice cookers) on the kitchen counter or dining table.

Who’s conducting the test?

Our trusted contractor, Norwood, will carry out the testing. They will have master key access, so you do not need to be present during the inspection. A detailed schedule will be emailed to you closer to the start date.

What happens if an item fails?

If any of your personal items fail the safety test, they will be confiscated to prevent potential hazards. You will receive a follow-up email with details on how to collect your item and guidance on what to do next.

If you have any concerns or need further information, please don’t hesitate to contact our friendly Health & Safety team at healthandsafety@hw.ac.uk
