Edinburgh Bucket List

Your top must-visit places to explore in Edinburgh

Days on campus can get busy, and sooner or later you might think you've not actually set foot off campus to explore Edinburgh - apart from doing your food shop.

Here are some of the top spots you must explore during your time in the city!

Outdoor Adventures 🌲

Arthur's Seat

Hike up the ancient extinct volcano in Holyrood Park for a 360 panoramic view of the city and the sea. It's a tradition to climb it during Freshers' Week or after finishing exam season, and it's free!

Calton Hill

Walk up the central hill to see striking monuments like the Dugald Stewart Monument and get classic skyline views without a strenuous mountain climb.

The Meadows

Spend an afternoon playing sports, walking or listening to music alone at this massive park right next to Edinburgh campus.

Portobello Beach

Take a quick bus ride out to the coast for seaside walks, swimming and ice cream when you need a break from campus life and studying.

Culture & Hidden Spots 🏛️

National Museum of Scotland

Explore the vast, interactive galleries showcasing science and history, then head straight to the 7th-floor rooftop terrace for incredible views of the castle. Entry tickets are free!

Panda & Sons

Step inside a fake vintage barbershop on Queen Street and walk through a hidden bookcase door into a cool hidden cocktail bar.

Victoria Street & Cockburn Street

Wander down these winding, colourful cobblestone streets in the Old Town, filled with quirky independent bookshops, vintage stores, and cafés.

Events 🎉

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Fringe takes over the city every August. It's the largest performing arts festival, packed with student comedy shows and street theatre, with many free previews to see!
