If you are using public transport to get to campus, then you should look for a property on the 25, 34 or 45 Lothian Buses routes
You can expect to pay £550-£770 per room per month or £700-£1000 for a one-bedroom flat.
These prices do not include bills, so make sure you budget for these in addition to your rent. The cost of bills will depend on the kind of property, the type of heating and the type of windows.
If you'd prefer to pay for your accommodation and bills together, then you should consider private student-only accommodation, which usually includes all living costs in the same way as halls of residence.
There are several ways you can find a flatmate to help share the cost of living in a privately rented property:
- Facebook - search 'find a flatmate-Heriot-Watt Edinburgh' and join the group
- Post an advert on the message board on Studentpad
- Spareroom - search for a flatmate
- Ask around - there'll be other people at university or even on your course who will be in the same position
If you're still stuck, check out How to find flatmates on our campus page.
If you're moving into a private rented accommodation for your second year, you can request an accommodation reference form.
Note: Make sure all accommodation payments are up to date before submitting your request, as your student account will be checked!
If you have any more questions about private rented accommodation, you can contact our accommodation office, and they'll be happy to help!
