Looking to stay in Heriot-Watt housing for the 2026/27 academic year? We'll show you how!
Follow these 5 easy steps on how to apply for accommodation:
1. Apply online
To submit an application, go to our accommodation portal - you'll need to create an account with your student ID number (begins with H00). Once you have applied, you will receive an email to say the accommodation team have received your application. If you don't receive this, please email halls@hw.ac.uk for Edinburgh campus or bordershalls@hw.ac.uk for Scottish Borders campus. Offers of accommodation will be made from July onwards for students holding an Unconditional Firm offer.
2. Upload guarantor details and accept your contract online
Before you can proceed to accept your contract, you must upload your guarantor form to the portal. You can then accept your offer online by following the instructions in your offer email. Your contract is not valid until you have accepted your offer online.
Please note: we can only make one offer of accommodation. Any further offers will only be made subject to availability.
3. Pay your advance rent payment
You'll need to pay a 4-week advance rent payment within 48 hours of receiving and accepting your accommodation offer. You must accept your offer of accommodation online before making the advance rent payment. To pay, log in to your accommodation account.
Alternatively, you can use a bank-to-bank transfer via Convera. Please ensure that you put your HWU ID number within the reference.
If you don't pay your advance rent payment within 48 hours of receiving your offer, then your offer will be invalid and may be cancelled.
4. Complete your online accommodation induction and book an arrival slot
Once you have accepted your contract, you need to complete your accommodation online induction via the accommodation portal. As part of the induction process, you will also be required to book an arrival slot. This is key to making a smooth arrival process.
5. Arrive on Campus
On arrival day, please remember to bring your arrival pass and a valid form of ID (you don't need to print a hard copy, as long as you can access your arrival pass on your phone). When you arrive on campus, make your way to the Main reception, where you can collect your key and be directed to your hall.
For Scottish Borders campus students, arrive at the Gateway Building, Jean Muir Student Village.
For more directions and travel information, visit our travel pages for the Edinburgh Campus or Scottish Border Campus.
For other queries, please see our arrival information page, and if you have any issues with your application, please contact halls@hw.ac.uk or bordershalls@hw.ac.uk.
