JMSV Community Fridge

🥕Share more, waste less! 💚

This semester we have launched a brand new community fridge for JMSV residents!  You'll find it on the ground floor of Gateway, in the Stitch, next to the coffee machine.

The idea is simple: if you have food you know you won't finish before it goes off, and nobody to share it with in your kitchen, pop it in the community fridge!  If you need something, you're welcome to take it.  No cost, no questions - just sharing!

Why We've Launched it?

University life can be busy (and budgets can be tight).  It's also easy to overbuy food or realise you're heading home for the weekend with half of a loaf of bread left.  The community fridge is here to:

  • Reduce waste food
  • Support one another
  • make JMSV feel more connected
  • Promote sustainable living

If we all use it well, it's a small change that can make a big difference.

How it works

  • Anyone in halls can add food
  • Anyone in halls can take food
  • Everything is free
  • All items must be clearly labelled

We just ask that everyone uses it responsibly and fairly.

To keep things safe:

  • Food must be in date
  • Items must be labelled with key information
  • Homemade food must be sealed and dated
  • The fridge will be checked regularly

Clear guidance is displayed on the fridge to make things easy.

A quick note about the milk

Each week, 2 litres of semi skimmed milk is freshly delivered from McQueen's Dairy on a Tuesday.  The milk is reserved for the coffee machine so please do not remove it from the fridge.

Thank you for helping keep this system fair for everyone.

It's Powered by You

The community fridge is a shared space, built on trust and respect.

Take what you need.

Leave what you can.

Check dates.

Label clearly.

That's it!  We are looking forward to seeing this become a positive, practical part of life in halls.  If you have surplus food, don't let it go to waste - share it ðŸ’š

Let's reduce waste and look out for each other.
