One of the best things about being at Heriot-Watt’s Scottish Borders campus is how close you are to the countryside. Last year a group of students headed just down the road to St Boswells to spend the day at The Scottish Donkey Sanctuary.
The sanctuary is home to over 150 donkeys (plus a few mules and llamas), and the group got to meet them all up close. There was plenty of grooming, feeding, and a lot of donkey cuddles.
It was a chance to swap the library for fresh air, muddy boots, and some very friendly four-legged faces. Trips like this are part of what makes studying at the Scottish Borders special, you’re surrounded by rolling hills, small towns, and community projects that offer a different pace of life from the city.
Keep an eye out during the year for more outings and events like this. Perfect for getting off campus, meeting new people, and seeing a different side of the Borders.
