Moving to a new place will no doubt mean you will have loads of burning questions for us.
To help settle any nerves and help you be prepared as possible for living in halls, we've collated some of the most asked questions from new students and put them all in on place...
If you are ordering things to be delivered to campus, it is important to address it correctly. It is a big campus with thousands of names, and you don't want to have to run around trying to find that fancy top you ordered hours before the party.
Your name (not the nickname you wish your parents have given you - same name as your ID!)
Your hall name (Leonard Horner, Robert Bryson, Lord Home, Christina Miller East, Christina Miller West, Robin Smith, George Burnett, Lord Thomson, Anna Macleod, Mary Fergusson or Muriel Spark) and Room number, Heriot-Watt University,
Edinburgh Campus,
Edinburgh,
EH14 4AS
The laundry room is either external to the building or somewhere in your building, if you need directions email reslife@hw.ac.uk.
You need to purchase a card or download the Circuit plus app (choose the one with red and blue logo!) to use the machines.
Check out our guide for everything you need to know.
Your Royal Mail letter and small parcel (that fits in your mailbox) is delivered to your mailbox once a day, Monday to Friday by the mailroom team.
Royal Mail parcels and tracked items will be processed by Residence Life team, and it can be collected from the Residence Life parcel room in Christina Miller hall. Parcel room opening hours are Mon-Sat, 6-8pm.
University does not accept or process any items delivered through private couriers such Evri, DHL, DPD and etc. Couriers are likely to leave your packages at the foyer or entrance of your building, please liaise directly with them if you are experiencing any issues.
Cleaners clean your kitchen and all public areas regularly but it's yours and your flatmates' responsibility to leave these areas in an acceptable condition for staff to clean.
Click here for more information on kitchen assisted cleaning.
Residents are not permitted to bring their cars on to campus. If you really need to have your car, please contact carparking@hw.ac.uk.
Bicycles need to be kept in the designated bike shed and NOT in flats, bedrooms or hallways. Although our bike shed is covered by CCTVs and it is not a secured shed, therefore we recommend everyone to purchase good bike chain or lock, and to consider taking a bike insurance. For more info, please visit our friendly Bike Bothy which is located just next to Oriam
We encourage flatmates to have a flat meeting first before involving our team, however, if you need us to step in and organise a mediation to resolve the issue, please don't hesitate to reach out to our team on reslife@hw.ac.uk
If you ever find yourself locked out of your room / kitchen / flat or building, don't panic! Simply contact SafeGuarding team on 0131-4513500 or pick up the red phone or press the enquiry button on your Safezone App, and someone will be with you within the hour.
Please be advised that you will be charged £50 fine on your 4th lock outs, and the fine will repeat on your 8th, 12th and so on. So do keep your keys on you at all times!
Scan the QR Code located in your kitchen to raise the issue or read our story here! If it's an emergency situation such as flooding or complete loss of power in the kitchen, please contact Safeguarding Services on 0131-4513500 for assistance
Please be advised that our maintenance team only work Monday to Friday 9 am - 4 pm
