Your moving out checklist

Making moving out that much easier

Believe it or not, it's only a few weeks until you will leave Heriot-Watt for the Summer!

If you're living in campus accommodation, now is the time to start thinking about moving out so there's less to do and think about later.

Luckily for you, we have put together a handy list to check...

  1. Check all items listed in the room inventory are in your bedroom. Report any repairs to us via the QR code in your kitchen NOW to avoid any charges.
  2. Remember to give your bank, mobile provider, Amazon, favourite fashion brands etc. your new address, and don't forget to let your GP know too.
  3. Make sure if you require external storage facilities, to organise it ASAP. We don't provide luggage room facilities but external companies do. A quick Google search will provide you with endless suggestions.
  4. Come up with a cleaning rota with your flatmates. Some might leave earlier so it's important everyone does their bit and it's not left to one person!
  5. Give your room, en-suite and kitchen a good clean and it's important to clear the fridge/cupboards of any food. Remember, many non-perishables and more can be donated!

Finally, return your key or card to the Main Reception. If you're doing this out of hours, place your key/card into an envelope with your building and room number and leave it in the metal box outside the main reception.

Leaving before the end of your contract?

If you decide to leave before your official lease end date, you will remain liable for all rent due and for any damages or cleaning required after your departure. If you are leaving early, speak to your flatmates to agree lease end arrangements as you may be charged for their mess or damages.

We won't be able to waive any charges if you leave early and your flatmates don't clean the flat or cause damage to the property after you leave.

You must inform the Accommodation team (Halls@hw.ac.uk) and return your keys to the main reception.
