Free Karate Lessons for Students This Summer!
Looking for a fun way to stay active, learn a new skill, and meet new people this summer?
Students are invited to attend FREE karate lessons every Tuesday evening throughout July at Jean Muir Student Village in Galashiels. Whether you're completely new to martial arts or have previous experience, everyone is welcome.
The classes are suitable for:
- Complete beginners
- Experienced martial artists
- All fitness levels
- Anyone looking to try something different
Karate is a fantastic way to improve fitness, coordination, confidence, focus, and self-discipline, all while learning practical self-defence skills in a friendly and supportive environment.
What is Wado-Ryu Karate?
The style taught in these classes is Wado-Ryu Karate, one of the major traditional styles of Japanese karate. The name "Wado-Ryu" translates as "The Way of Harmony", reflecting its emphasis on blending movement, timing, and body positioning rather than relying solely on strength.
Wado-Ryu combines striking techniques such as punches and kicks with evasive footwork and body movement, making it an efficient and dynamic martial art suitable for people of all ages and abilities. Training develops balance, coordination, speed, and awareness while promoting respect and personal growth.
Learn from an Experienced Instructor
Classes will be led by Martin Brownlee, a highly experienced 7th Dan karate instructor who has taught karate for many years. In addition to his extensive martial arts background, Martin has also worked as a personal trainer, bringing a wealth of knowledge about fitness, movement, and physical wellbeing to his teaching.
His classes are known for being welcoming, supportive, and accessible to students of all abilities, making them an ideal opportunity for anyone interested in giving karate a try.
Come Along and Give It a Go
No previous experience is required, and you don't need to be super fit to get started. Just bring comfortable clothing, an open mind, and a willingness to learn.
(Please note, there will be no class on 14 July)
