Exam Season: Handy Revision Hacks

Work smarter, not harder

The exam period is difficult for everyone, whether you've got your revision process nailed down or are struggling to find your best technique, we've got some tips and tricks to help make the exam period a little easier...

1. Make a timetable

Making a timetable is a great way to manage your time, especially when you have lots of plans over the holidays. The key to planning your time is to create realistic goals that you can actually stick to. You don't want to overload yourself with revision and be disappointed when you don't have time to do it.

Being prepared for exams or next semester is important, but so is spending quality time with family and friends over Christmas. So make sure you balance your time!

2. Try to establish a routine

At university, it's easier to get into a routine when you have lectures and seminars at the same time each week. Try to build a similar structure at home so you're less likely to completely forget about any of your uni work.

This way, you can build in rewards for sticking to your routine and completing your work. Whether you treat yourself to spending more time with family, meeting up with friends or simply going down the TikTok rabbit hole for a while, it's important that you don't overwork yourself!

3. Figure out what works best for you

Choose a work space and revision style that works for you. You might like to work at your desk all of time or switch it up, so try to figure out what works best for you and gets you in the zone!

Sticking revision notes around the house might sound crazy at first but a lot of students find this really helpful. Having post-it notes covered in key facts on your bathroom mirror, bedroom door and even on the fridge is great for reminders and fitting in a bit of revision when you're busy.

4. Set a timer

When you can't focus and start procrastinating, setting a timer can be helpful. This allows you to set a certain amount of time where you can work without any distractions.

If you're the type of studier who is constantly distracted by their phone, especially when you're using it for a timer, downloading an app like Flora can be handy. All you need to do is set a timer and press start to begin growing a tree. If you leave the app to browse through social media, the tree will die so the guilt will definitely keep you revising.

5. Revise little and often

Who wants to end the Christmas holidays in a mad rush? Leaving your uni work until the last minute is a classic but stressful move. Revising little and often means that you can enjoy as much time as possible with family and friends whilst still feeling productive.

It might not seem that you're getting a lot done day-to-day but you'll soon see how much work you get done once the holiday break is over. It's definitely worth it!

Good luck!
